The bayonet No.1MKII* was used with the short Lee-Enfield SMLE (Short, Magazine, Lee-Enfield) No.1 MK III and No.1 MK III* rifles. Officially, the bayonet was adopted in 1947, but it seems to have been in service for several years by this time according to the old English tradition. It differs from the basic model (No.1MKII) only in its double-sided sharpening of the blade end.
The blade of the bayonet is single-blade, without fullers. The combat end is two-bladed. The handle is formed by two wooden sidepieces fastened with two screws to the shank. The handle head has a T-slot and a spring latch with an internal spiral spring arrangement, as well as a through hole. The cross is short, straight with a ring on the shoe side of the blade. Leather scabbard with an iron device consisting of a mouth with a round spindle and a tip.
